What it is

A Waiting Position is an agreed posture the sub holds while waiting to be acknowledged, received, or given the next instruction. It may be kneeling, standing, seated at the Dom’s feet, or another position that can be held comfortably. The task ends when the Dom acknowledges, releases, repositions, or directs the sub.

Why it is submissive

The sub gives the Dom control over the pace of the interaction. Instead of filling the pause, changing position, or deciding what comes next, they stay ready and attentive. The Dom decides when the wait is over and what the sub does afterward.

Why people may like it

Waiting can make a simple pause feel charged. Some subs enjoy not knowing when they will be acknowledged or what the next instruction will be; others like having only one clear job—stay ready. The position can also create a strong visual sense of availability. Doms may enjoy controlling the pace and seeing the sub remain composed without needing repeated commands.

Ways to run it

Kneeling Wait
The sub waits on their knees in a comfortable agreed position until the Dom acknowledges or redirects them.
Standing Wait
The sub stands in the chosen posture and remains quiet, still, and ready for instruction.
Wait at My Feet
The sub sits or kneels near the Dom’s feet while the Dom continues another activity.
Doorway Wait
The sub waits at an agreed doorway or threshold until invited farther into the room.
Timed Waiting Practice
The sub practices holding a comfortable waiting position for a set period while staying attentive.

How this task works

Waiting Position is a protocol from the protocol & positions chart. This is an in-person task — it needs you and your Dom in the same room. It's a kink task — charged with power exchange, though not explicit.

Beginner-friendly: a good early assignment in a new dynamic. Standard care applies: negotiate first, agree on limits, and check in afterward.
