What it is

Forbidden Words removes specific vocabulary from the submissive's ordinary speech for a defined period. The Dominant might ban swearing, a first name, a habitual filler word, or another agreed term. The sub may still talk normally as long as they avoid the prohibited language. Unlike Short Replies Only, there is no general limit on how much they can say. The challenge is remembering which familiar words are temporarily unavailable.

What makes it punishing

Habit makes this harder than it sounds. A word the sub uses without thinking suddenly has to be caught before it leaves their mouth. That constant self-editing can make ordinary conversation feel awkward and effortful. Each near-mistake brings the punishment back into focus and reminds the sub that even familiar language is under restriction.

Why Dominants Choose It

A word ban can make punishment feel closely tied to the behavior being corrected. Instead of removing speech altogether, the Dominant can target a specific habit or form of address. The result follows the sub through normal conversation and requires repeated attention. That can appeal to a Dom who wants a consequence that is subtle, persistent, and easy to notice when the sub slips.

Ways to run it

No Swearing: The submissive must avoid all agreed swear words while the punishment remains active.
No First Name: The Dominant’s ordinary name is banned and must be replaced with the agreed title.
Filler-Word Ban: A habitual filler word is prohibited so the sub must notice and change the speech habit.
Required Replacement: Each banned word has an approved replacement that the submissive must use instead.
Infraction-Specific Ban: The prohibited word or phrase directly relates to the behavior that caused the punishment.
