What it is
Sitting on a rough surface uses an uncomfortable textured seat as the punishment. A bristled plastic mat, coarse straw mat, or purpose-made textured cushion can replace an ordinary chair surface. The submissive remains seated for the assigned period, either on its own or while completing another seated activity. Unlike kneeling on rice, the pressure and irritation are spread beneath the buttocks. The defining feature is having to stay on a seat chosen specifically because it is difficult to settle into.
What makes it punishing
The sub cannot simply forget what they are sitting on. The texture stays under the body, and squirming may only shift the irritation rather than remove it. That turns an ordinary act—sitting down—into something persistently unpleasant. The frustration can come from knowing that a comfortable chair may be nearby while the assigned seat remains the only one permitted.
Why Dominants Choose It
A rough seat can make punishment continue with very little active effort from the Dominant. Once the sub is placed there, the surface keeps supplying the consequence while the Dom watches, talks, or goes about something else.
