Hold Your Arms Up
Hold both arms raised above your body until the assigned endurance period is complete.
Extra care required. This punishment carries more risk than standard play. Make sure both people understand the specific activity, agree on limits and intensity beforehand, and have a clear way to stop.
What it is
Holding the arms up is a static endurance punishment. The submissive raises both arms above the head and keeps them in the position the Dominant specifies. The arms may be straight, held in a wide V, or joined at the hands. The punishment depends on maintaining the raised posture under the arms’ own weight. It differs from holding an object overhead because no external load is needed; the body itself creates the difficulty.
What makes it punishing
A posture that feels easy for the first moments can become demanding as the shoulders and upper arms tire. The sub has to resist the natural urge to lower the hands, soften the posture, or seek support. The raised arms can also make the body feel exposed, leaving fatigue and vulnerability present at the same time.
Why Dominants Choose It
This punishment turns one simple command into a steadily increasing test of obedience. Once the position is set, the Dominant does not need to keep administering anything. They can instead watch the effort become visible as the arms shake or the hands begin to drift. That makes it well suited to correction where the sub must actively hold themselves in difficulty rather than simply receive an action from the Dom.
Ways to run it
- Straight Overhead
- Both arms stay extended directly above the shoulders in a simple vertical endurance position.
- Wide V Hold
- The arms remain raised in a wide V, changing the shoulder position while keeping them overhead.
- Palms Together
- The sub keeps the arms raised with the palms pressed together above the head throughout.
- Hands Clasped
- The fingers remain interlaced overhead, creating one joined hand position the sub must preserve.
- Kneeling Arms Up
- The sub combines the raised-arm hold with an agreed kneeling posture for a more openly submissive presentation.
How this punishment works
Hold Your Arms Up is from the positions & physical endurance category. This is an in-person punishment — it needs you and your Dom in the same room. It's a kink punishment — charged with power exchange, though not explicit.
Intermediate: best once you've built trust, protocol, and a track record together.
