What it is
After a strike or set, the Dom pauses and waits for the sub to decide whether they want the scene to continue. The sub must ask clearly for the next strike, the next set, or the same intensity again. The pause should be long enough for a real assessment rather than functioning as a scripted word the sub is expected to say automatically. Even after the request, the Dom can decide that continuing or escalating is not appropriate.
Why it is submissive
The sub has to turn the desire for more pain into a direct request and offer it to the Dom. That can feel more exposing than simply allowing the scene to continue without speaking. The Dom retains authority over whether the request is granted, which implement is used, and whether the next set stays the same or changes.
