Punishment No. 82 of 204

Grounding

Lose optional outings for an agreed period and remain home instead of following your usual leisure plans.

Extra care required. This punishment carries more risk than standard play. Make sure both people understand the specific activity, agree on limits and intensity beforehand, and have a clear way to stop.

What it is

Grounding is a punishment that temporarily removes the submissive’s freedom to go out for optional social or leisure activities. The restriction may apply to one planned outing, an evening, a weekend, or another clearly defined period. Necessary responsibilities continue; the consequence is the loss of discretionary movement. Unlike Room Off-Limits, grounding does not ban one space inside the home. It limits the sub’s ability to leave home for things they would otherwise choose to do.

What makes it punishing

Grounding can bite because it interferes with real plans rather than creating a brief scene. The sub may have to stay home while a dinner, night out, event, or casual outing passes without them. That loss of spontaneity can make the consequence feel persistent. Each time they would normally choose to go out, the restriction reminds them that this freedom is temporarily not theirs.

Why Dominants Choose It

Dominants may choose grounding when they want a consequence that lasts beyond a single disciplinary moment. It reaches into the submissive’s routine and removes something concrete: the freedom to make optional plans and leave home. That can give the punishment more weight than a short correction. It can also feel especially authoritative because the Dom is not merely directing an activity; they are setting the boundary around what the sub may do with a stretch of personal time.

Ways to run it

One-Outing Grounding
One specific optional plan is cancelled, making the consequence concrete without restricting the submissive’s entire week.
Evening Grounding
The sub remains home for one defined evening instead of going out for social or leisure reasons.
Weekend Grounding
Optional outings are suspended for a defined weekend, creating a longer restriction on discretionary freedom.
Permission for Outings
During the grounding period, the submissive must ask before any optional trip outside the home.
Until Correction Is Complete
Grounding ends after a clearly defined corrective task is completed and acknowledged by the Dominant.

How this punishment works

Grounding is from the time-outs & movement limits category. It's long-distance friendly: messages, photos, or a call are all it takes, which makes it usable for online and distance dynamics. It's a nonsexual punishment: structure and consequence, no sexual content required.

Intermediate: best once you've built trust, protocol, and a track record together.
