Punishment No. 173 of 204

Spreader Bar

Keep your restrained limbs spread apart by a rigid bar until the Dominant removes it.

Extra care required. This punishment carries more risk than standard play. Make sure both people understand the specific activity, agree on limits and intensity beforehand, and have a clear way to stop.

What it is

A Spreader Bar is a rigid restraint that keeps a pair of limbs separated at a fixed distance. The cuffs at each end may attach to the ankles or wrists. The bar can be used while the submissive stands, kneels, sits, or lies down. The defining feature is that the restrained limbs cannot be brought back together. A spreader bar can be part of spread-eagle bondage, but this punishment focuses on the bar’s imposed spacing of one pair of limbs.

What makes it punishing

The sub is denied a very basic protective movement: bringing the restrained limbs back together. They may still be able to shift the rest of the body, yet the bar keeps one part conspicuously open and arranged. That can create frustration, exposure, and an awkward awareness that the position remains fixed no matter how much the submissive wants to close it.

Why Dominants Choose It

A spreader bar gives the Dominant precise control over one visible part of the sub’s posture. The Dom decides exactly how far apart the restrained limbs remain, and the equipment keeps enforcing that decision. It can therefore create strong exposure without requiring complete immobilization, letting the punishment feel controlling while still leaving room for the submissive to move in other ways.

Ways to run it

Standing Ankle Spreader
The ankles remain separated while the sub stands, making every shift of weight happen within the imposed stance.
Lying Ankle Spreader
The legs stay spread while the submissive lies down, preserving exposure without requiring a standing position.
Wrist Spreader
The wrists attach to opposite ends of the bar so the hands cannot be brought back together.
Overhead Wrist Spreader
A wrist bar is held or anchored overhead, combining separated hands with a raised-arm presentation.
Adjustable-Width Spreader
The Dominant chooses a specific bar width so the degree of separation becomes part of the punishment.

How this punishment works

Spreader Bar is from the restraint & confinement category. This is an in-person punishment — it needs you and your Dom in the same room. It's a kink punishment — charged with power exchange, though not explicit.

Intermediate: best once you've built trust, protocol, and a track record together.
