What it is
Recite the Rule requires the submissive to say an existing rule or agreed commitment aloud after breaching it. The recitation may happen once as a formal acknowledgment or several times when repetition is part of the consequence. The wording should reflect the actual agreement rather than inventing a new rule during punishment. Unlike writing lines, the activity is spoken. Its focus is hearing and stating the exact standard that the submissive failed to meet.
What makes it punishing
Hearing the broken rule in your own voice can make it much harder to distance yourself from what happened. The submissive has to say the expectation clearly instead of treating it as something the Dominant merely imposed from outside. Repetition can add embarrassment or tedium, particularly when the wording points directly back to the behavior that caused the correction.
