What it is

Account for What You Did requires the submissive to give a clear account of a specific breach. They explain what happened, what they chose or failed to do, and how that differed from the agreed expectation. The Dominant may ask follow-up questions until the event is understood. Unlike an apology, the purpose is not primarily to express remorse. The sub is being required to answer for their conduct in their own words.

What makes it punishing

There is nowhere to hide inside a vague “sorry.” The sub has to revisit the incident, explain their decisions, and let the Dominant examine the explanation. That can feel exposing when the real answer is forgetfulness, avoidance, poor judgment, or knowingly choosing something else. The consequence is being made fully accountable rather than allowing the breach to blur into excuses.

Why Dominants Choose It

This is especially useful when the Dominant wants to understand the failure before deciding what it means. Hearing the sub account for their own behavior can reveal whether the rule was misunderstood, ignored, forgotten, or simply difficult to follow. It also puts responsibility back in the submissive’s hands: the Dom does not have to narrate the mistake for them. The sub must show that they understand it.

Ways to run it

Straight Account
The submissive explains what happened from beginning to end without a separate written assignment.
Question-and-Answer Review
The Dominant leads the accounting by asking focused questions about the breach and the choices involved.
Timeline Account
The submissive walks through the event step by step, identifying where the agreed expectation was missed.
Rule-Focused Account
The explanation centers on the exact rule involved and how the submissive’s behavior departed from it.
Remote Accounting
The submissive gives the account by voice or video call when the dynamic is long-distance.

How this punishment works

Account for What You Did is from the reprimands & reflection category. It's long-distance friendly: messages, photos, or a call are all it takes, which makes it usable for online and distance dynamics. It's a nonsexual punishment: structure and consequence, no sexual content required.

Beginner-friendly: a possible early consequence in a new dynamic.
