Punishment No. 68 of 204
Ask Before Buying Something
Require approval before the submissive makes discretionary purchases during the punishment.
What it is
Ask Before Buying Something requires the submissive to get the Dominant's approval before making covered discretionary purchases. The submissive explains what they want to buy and waits for an answer before completing the purchase. The rule may apply to every nonessential purchase, one category, or spending above a set amount. Unlike a spending ban, buying is still possible. The Dominant decides whether the covered purchase goes ahead.
What makes it punishing
A purchase impulse normally moves straight from wanting something to deciding whether to buy it. This punishment inserts another person's judgment into that moment. The sub has to reveal the desire, ask, and accept that the answer may be no or not yet. That can make even a small purchase feel less private and less spontaneous.
Why Dominants Choose It
Spending permission creates a concrete decision point around an area where everyday autonomy is usually strong. Each request puts the Dom in the position of approving, delaying, or refusing something the sub wants. The punishment can feel personal and persistent without becoming broad financial control. It may be especially fitting after impulsive spending or ignoring an agreed budget.
Ways to run it
- Purchase Threshold
- Only discretionary purchases above an agreed dollar amount require the Dominant's approval before checkout.
- Category Approval
- Permission is required only for one spending category, such as clothes or hobbies.
- All Discretionary Spending
- Every nonessential purchase requires approval for the duration of the punishment period.
- Written Purchase Request
- The submissive sends the item, price, and reason for wanting it before the Dominant decides.
- Cooling-Off Decision
- The Dominant waits for an agreed period before answering, preventing the sub from acting on an immediate impulse.
How this punishment works
Ask Before Buying Something is from the permission & choice control category. It's long-distance friendly: messages, photos, or a call are all it takes, which makes it usable for online and distance dynamics. It's a nonsexual punishment: structure and consequence, no sexual content required.
Beginner-friendly: a possible early consequence in a new dynamic.
