Explain or demonstrate an assigned topic in your own words so your Dom can see what you actually understood.
What it is
Teach-back asks the sub to explain or demonstrate an assigned topic in their own words. They may give a short lesson, show the steps of a skill, answer scenarios, or explain a common mistake and how to avoid it. The goal is to reveal what the sub actually understood, including gaps that were hidden while reading or listening. Copying the source or repeating memorized phrases does not complete the task.
Why it is submissive
The sub makes their understanding available for the Dom to inspect instead of protecting themselves with easy agreement. They accept questions and correction and are willing to admit where the explanation breaks down. The Dom checks whether the instruction was understood well enough to guide future behavior or practice.
Why people may like it
Explaining something aloud often exposes the exact point where knowledge becomes uncertain. Some subs enjoy the challenge of organizing a topic clearly and proving that they can apply it rather than merely recognize the words. Correction can feel more useful because it addresses a visible gap. Doms may gain confidence that an instruction, rule, or safety concept was genuinely understood before relying on it in a real situation.
Ways to run it
- Five-Minute Lesson
- The sub teaches the topic in five minutes using their own structure and examples.
- Written Teach-Back
- The sub explains the topic without copying and includes one example of how it applies.
- Show-Me Demonstration
- The sub performs the learned steps while explaining what they are doing and why.
- Scenario Questions
- The Dom presents several situations and the sub explains how the learned principle applies to each one.
- Teach It Again Later
- The sub repeats the explanation after a delay to check whether the understanding was retained.
How this task works
Teach Back What You Learned is a learning task from the training & skill building chart. It works in person or apart, so long-distance dynamics can run it too. It's a nonsexual task: structure and submission, no sexual content required.
Beginner-friendly: a good early assignment in a new dynamic. Standard care applies: negotiate first, agree on limits, and check in afterward.
